Urban Theatre Projects: 2016 program

Urban Theatre Projects are making big things happen in 2016.

Highlights include the premiere of Simple Infinity, a remount of The Tribe, the commissioning of five writers across two major works (the very epic Home Project (working title) and the sophisticated B-Side Black Box), blue sky research for four artists for Right Here, Right Now and a continued investment in supporting emerging artists through our _SPACE residency program.

We’re working with exceptional artists to realise our program next year including Andrea James, Peter Polites, Michael Mohammed Ahmad, Janice Muller, Hazzam Shammas, David Hawkes, Vicki Van Hout, Luke Waterlow, Liberty Kerr, Travis Cardona and Roslyn Oades. Some of our amazing partners include Belvoir, Blacktown Arts Centre, NORPA, Performing Lines, Carriageworks and Evolve Housing, to name just a few.

During 2016 we continue to clock up the miles as we travel down the M4, M7 and M5 and the T1, T2 and T3 train lines, traversing the mass geography which is (Greater) Sydney, immersing ourselves in surburbia across Summer, Autumn, Winter and the Spring, visiting our partners, collaborators and imagining the future life of our work, and the future of our city.

Although 2016 is primarily a year of development for us – sowing seeds for 2017 and beyond – you’ll still be able to get your UTP fix with The Tribe (19 Jan – 7 Feb 2016) and Simple Infinity (13-16 July 2016) and our oldest emerging performer, June Hickey, will continue to anchor Talk Show.
