UTP has recently established the UTP Producers’ Circle to provide commissioning funding to seed new work.
UTP’s focus is on telling real life stories that are artistically distinctive and have the power to connect. At any one time UTP has up to three works in various stages of development, with large-scale works taking up to three years to create. In 2016, for example, we were working with five commissioned writers to develop The HOME COUNTRY Project and two full-length works for our B-Side Indigenous program. In addition to working with writers, projects such as One Day For Peace and BANKSTOWN:LIVE see us develop relationships with the people around us to create work that reflects contemporary Australia and engages with social issues.
The Producers’ Circle is an opportunity to engage with the creation of this new work from the beginning, and to stay closely connected throughout the creative process – not only to the work, but to the broader direction of the Company. As a result, members have a shared ownership of UTP’s artistic program, impact and achievements.
Members of the Producers’ Circle literally make UTP’s new work happen. An annual donation of $2000+ not only provides vital seed funding but also kick starts further financial support. Joining the Producers’ Circle as a founding member is to play a specific and vital role, now and into the future.
